Sharing the Joy

About 3 or 4 years ago, a new design came into my head. It took me several tries to get it just right. Then I had to find the right colors for what it looked like in my head. Once I found them, it was time to crochet. It took me a little over a month to make this blanket. And that was just crocheting the individual squares. Yes, those are individual squares that had to be sewn together. I can't tell you how many times I had to un-sew a square because I positioned it wrong. That step took about another 2-3 weeks.

This blanket has been sitting in a tote ever since. I advertised over the years, trying to sell it. A lot of people told me how beautiful it was. But no one was interested in buying it. I wasn't asking a lot for it.

Fast forward to 2020.

This amazing couple is Blayne and Vanessa. They are friends of my cousin, Amanda. Now, I have been a part of this family since 2002. I had only just met her friends this year. Hanging out at her house with her parents, Blayne and Vanessa were hanging out with Amanda. We were hanging out separately and had a vague introduction.

A couple of months later, we were all hanging out again. And I remembered that Amanda had told us how they bought a mini school bus and converted it into a camper. They were planning on traveling. When they walked in this particular night, this very blanket popped into my head. I knew then why I never sold it. Even though I did not know of them when I made it, this blanket was meant for them.

I knew I had to give it to them.

These pictures are the still version story of them opening the bag and seeing the actual blanket for the first time. There are a couple of videos to accompany them. I was told that Blayne spent the rest of the evening with the blanket wrapped around him. I hope he shares it with Vanessa.

I'm not a very sentimental person. But I was filled with pride to be able to give this to them. However, when Amanda sent me the videos, I cried. It meant a lot to me to be able to make it. And give it away. But the appreciation they had... That was priceless.
